Dennis Berrigan is an American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) Evaluator for ASL Diagnostic and Evaluation Services (ASL-DES) at Gallaudet University. Dennis earned his master in education degree from McDaniel College and his B.S. degree from Gallaudet University. Dennis grew up in a Deaf family outside of Syracuse, New York and graduated from St. Mary’s School for the Deaf in Buffalo. Prior to his employment with ASL-DES, Dennis was employed at various educational institutions as a Physical Education teacher/coach at the American School for the Deaf in Connecticut, classroom teacher/coach at the Bloomfield Hills School District in Michigan, Assistant Professor in Sign Language Studies at Madonna University in Michigan and ASL Programs Coordinator at the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University. Mr. Berrigan has contributed to several publications and video productions that relate to ASL and literacy: “What is Bad ASL Semantics?,” “ASL and Me,” “Sign Language Teaching.” He served as the sign master for the videotapes, “Read It Again and Again,” “ASL Across America” among others. He has provided numerous trainings, workshops and presentations in the United States and Canada. His additional expertise is in area of ASL training, teaching, coaching and assessment.
